Grinsdale Beaumont Beat

About 2 miles of single bank salmon and sea trout fishing on the left (south) bank of the River Eden in Cumbria.
Cost.
Rent per rod £475 (2007 season) for one day a week throughout the season.

When Available.
The fishing is divided into two four rod beats with the rods let on a day a week basis through the season (15th January to 14th October, both dates inclusive). Fishing will commence at 5am on the day of let and terminate at 5am the following day.

Name and description of Beat.
The Grinsale Beaumont beat is, without doubt, one of the most prolific beats on the river due to its position in that the beat is reached by high spring tides and although this can, on occasion, affect the fishings it has the advantage that in low water conditions fish will build up throughout the whole length of the fishery.

5 year average – 129 salmon, 50 sea trout

Rules

Rods.
- Rods must not fish beyond their beat allocated for that day.

- Rods must not wade beyond the centre line of the river.  The interpretation of this rule allows some leeway when fishing the fly only in the Quarry and the Doudel.

- A rod will not wade into the river and then cast back or fish back towards the bank of his own beat or otherwise cast or fish facing the bank of his own beat.

- All rods are subject to observance of the Environment Agency byelaws and must carry a current Environment Agency rod licence at all times.

- The right to fish is transferable to a rod’s guest.  The guest is bound by these conditions of let, and must carry the rod holder’s guest permit. For the avoidance of doubt, a rod can only be transferred to one guest on any one day.

- Rod sharing shall be allowed, but rules and restrictions apply. Please ask when booking.

- Unattended rods and set lines are totally prohibited.

- Rods cannot be sub-let.

Fishing.
- Anglers must keep moving when others are waiting to fish, and in addition, must move one yard after every cast.

- Anglers must not enter the river below a rod fishing on either bank, and no more than two rods per bank must fish any pool at any one time, unless the river is at 6” or above at 9 am on the day.

- Any angler found annoying another will be warned off of the river and not allowed to fish
again.

Boats.
- Fishing from a boat is limited to one boat per bank with 2 rods only fishing from the boat at any one time. This must be prebooked and a booking fee of £20 is required. Restrictions and rules apply; please ask for more information when booking.

Catches.
- In addition to any new byelaws introduced by the Environment Agency during the 2007 Season, the following fish must returned to the water with as little harm as possible: a
ll Kelts, unclean and unseasonable fish, salmon fry, all migratory fish under 12”, all coarse fish, and any fish which is foul hooked.

- Returns must be made of all fish caught, whether killed or returned, to the respective agent of the Harrison & Arter Fishery.  In the case of Cargo Fishings, returns must be made by way of a written entry in the Catch Returns Book, and entered before leaving the fishery, or alternatively, by telephoning details through to Brian Gent within 2 days of taking any salmon not logged in the Returns Book.

- Conservation: a bag limit of 2 salmon and 2 sea trout per rod per day maximum may be taken, hereafter catch and release will apply.

- Notwithstanding the above rule, tenants are specifically requested not to kill more than 1 salmon and 1 sea trout per rod day/visit.

- The possibility exists that the Environment Agency may well impose new byelaws in 2007restricting the numbers of fish an angler can kill.  Should such byelaws be introduced they will take precedence over this condition.

Other.
- Cars to be parked in defined parking areas, and in the case of the Cargo Fishery, the car park gate, and fishing hut must be kept locked at all times.

- Dogs are allowed but must be kept under strict control.

Please Note.
Any member infringing the above conditions of let, or convicted of illegal fishing, or an offence under the Fisheries Act shall forfeit the right to fish immediately without refund of any monies paid to the Fishery Owners, or their Agents. Grinsdale & Beaumont Fishings accept no responsibility for injury or loss incurred by the rods or damage caused to vehicles, tackle or other property belonging to them. Rods must accept the risk incidental to the exercise of the rights of fishing thereby conferred, and will have no claim for injury, loss, or damage suffered by them.
